Description: Gray-brown to black, hard-shelled weevils with long, slender beaks. The most characteristic feature is the two spurs on the upper part of the front legs.
Habitat/Food: Cotton Boll Weevils live in cotton fields. Overwinter in all kinds of shelter, in trees, under bark, in trash, in fence rows, and under leaves. Cotton Boll Weevils generally eat cotton.
Life Cycle: Complete metamorphosis. Generation every twenty-five days. Overwinter in the adult stage.
Organic Control: Garlic spray, neem, pepper spray are all organic controls that can be used.
Interesting Fact: Over the years the weevil became a significant pest, destroying about 8% of the annual U.S. cotton crop.
Problems Caused:Cotton Boll Weevils are bad for farmers in the cotton industry seeing as they eat cotton.
