ScientificName: Gryllidae Gryllus
Description: 1-inch, dark brown bodies with long antennae.
Habitat/Food: Crickets live in warm dark places during the day and come out at night to feed on several different types of plants and insects, dog food, food scraps, rubber, and leather. They also cause damage to some fabrics indoors.
Life Cycle: Eggs are laid in moist soil. They can have three generations per year.
Organic Control: Diatomaceous Earth and most organic insect sprays are effective.
Interesting Fact: The cricket is the national insect of Japan. At night you can always hear them chirping until they are disturbed by someone or something passing by. The Japanese used this warning system as a natural house alarm. If all of the crickets stop chirping in the middle of the night then you might possibly have an intruder close by.
